Getting in the public eye

Abolicao Oxford Capoeira group were once again supporting the Trust with a kids class demonstration and a roda right in the centre of Oxford's busy Westgate shopping centre.

Shoppers trapsing round the city centre in the hope of finding inspiration for the growing Christmas list were treated to a short display from the kids of the Capoeira group, followed by a lively roda right in the middle of the shopping centre. An hour of kicks, spins, acrobatics and the odd head slide or two delighted onlookers only a few of whom were confused by the Brazilian Martial Art display taking place right next to the large Christmas tree with it's festive snowmen and sparkly tinsel. Given the time of year the sound of the berimbau and enthusiastic singing was a welcome change from the cheesy christmas tunes playing on repeat in the nearby shops.

Overall the display raised another £70 or so from the shoppers and we were able to give out more publicity about the Trust so we are continuing to raise our profile locally which is essential to gain support.

Thanks to everyone who gave up their time to be there and made it another great afternoon of capoeira.

Baring all for a great cause

3 supporters of the Trust recently went above and beyond the call of duty and gave up their own body hair in a valiant effort to raise money for our 2 projects. Best of all, the Oxford Mail were on hand to record the details:

It is a shame that the Mail didn't manage to mention contact details for the Trust, but hey, it's another small step on the way to getting news about the projects and the work we're supporting 'out there'. Thanks again to Dende, Jaca and Gaviao for lending their bodies and tears to raise another £300, and Diane at Fit Kit for taking the time to strip them of their beloved hairyness - it's all worth the effort.
